Terms & Conditions

Stage Library provides scripts and performance resources primarily for schools, theatre schools, youth theatres, performing arts organisations, community groups and other organisations producing theatrical performances.

Our products may include:

• digital scripts;
• performance licences;
• rehearsal and production resources;
• teaching resources;
• suggested song or music ideas; and
• other downloadable materials.

When you place an order through Stage Library, you confirm that:

• the information you provide is accurate;
• you are authorised to make the purchase on behalf of the organisation named in the order, where applicable; and
• you have read and accepted these Terms & Conditions.

An order is accepted when payment has been successfully processed and we send you an order confirmation.

We reserve the right to refuse or cancel an order where there has been an obvious pricing or technical error, suspected fraud or misuse of our materials. If we cancel an order after taking payment, we will refund the relevant amount.

Prices are shown in pounds sterling (£).

Stage Library is not currently VAT registered, so VAT is not added to the prices displayed.

Payment must be made using one of the payment methods available at checkout.

The price shown at checkout is the price payable for the product and licence selected.

Purchasing a Stage Library show does not transfer ownership or copyright in the script or associated materials to you.

Instead, your purchase gives you a limited licence to use the materials in accordance with these Terms and the details of your specific order.

Copyright remains with Stage Library and/or the relevant author or rights holder.

UK copyright law gives rights holders control over matters including copying, public performance, communication to the public and adaptation of protected works.

Where your purchase includes a performance licence, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to perform the licensed show.

The licence applies only to:

• the organisation named on the order;
• the production for which the licence was purchased;
• the number of performances included in your licence; and
• any other restrictions or details shown in your order confirmation.

A licence cannot be transferred to another school, theatre school, company, branch, venue or organisation without our written permission.

If you wish to add additional performances, please contact Stage Library before those performances take place.

Scripts and resources supplied by Stage Library are for use in connection with the licensed production only.

You may make or distribute reasonable copies of the script to the cast, creative team and staff involved in that production where the product permits this.

You must not:

• sell or resell our scripts;
• upload them to a public website;
• share them publicly;
• distribute them to another organisation;
• make them available through public file-sharing services;
• use them for another production without the appropriate licence; or
• remove copyright notices or author credits.

Digital materials must be stored securely and shared only with people who reasonably require access for the licensed production.

We understand that youth productions often need some flexibility.

Reasonable production changes such as casting multiple roles, changing character gender where appropriate, adjusting staging, or making minor practical cuts may be permitted where they do not materially alter the story or nature of the work.

However, you must not substantially rewrite, reproduce, translate, publish or create a new adaptation of a Stage Library work without our prior written permission.

If you are unsure whether a proposed change is acceptable, please contact us before making it.

Unless a product page expressly states otherwise, music licensing is not included in your Stage Library performance licence.

Where Stage Library provides suggested songs, song ideas or music recommendations, these are suggestions only.

You are responsible for ensuring that you have any licences, permissions or rights required to:

• perform copyrighted music;
• play recorded music;
• reproduce lyrics or sheet music;
• create arrangements;
• record music; or
• include music in a filmed or streamed production.

Purchasing a Stage Library script does not grant rights in third-party songs, recordings or compositions.

A standard performance licence does not automatically grant permission to commercially distribute, broadcast or publicly stream a production.

If you wish to professionally film, livestream, broadcast, sell recordings of or otherwise commercially distribute a production, please contact us before doing so.

You are also responsible for obtaining any necessary permissions relating to performers, children, music, photography and third-party copyrighted material.

Performers can have rights in recordings of their performances separately from the copyright in the underlying work.

Where an author or creator credit is provided with the licensed work, this credit must be included wherever reasonably practical in programmes, listings and production materials.

You must not claim authorship or ownership of a Stage Library work.

Digital products may be made available immediately after purchase.

You are responsible for ensuring that you have suitable equipment and software to access PDF or other digital files supplied.

Please download and securely store any materials supplied to you.

We may occasionally update or correct our digital resources. Where appropriate, updated versions may be made available to customers.

Where you are purchasing as a consumer and ask us to provide digital content immediately, you will be asked at checkout to expressly agree to immediate access and acknowledge that your statutory right to cancel may be lost once supply of the digital content begins.

This does not affect your statutory rights where digital content is faulty, not as described or otherwise fails to meet applicable legal requirements. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 provides statutory protections relating to digital content and services.

For organisations purchasing in the course of business, orders for digital materials and licences are generally non-refundable once the materials have been supplied or accessed, except where we agree otherwise or where required by law.

If you receive the wrong product, cannot access your files or believe there is a problem with the material supplied, please contact us.

We will try to resolve legitimate technical or product issues promptly.

Nothing in these Terms excludes rights that cannot legally be excluded.

If your planned production is postponed or cancelled, please contact us.

Performance licences are issued for the organisation and production for which they were purchased and cannot automatically be transferred to another organisation.

Where possible, we may at our discretion agree to move a performance licence to a new date for the same organisation and production.

Any such change must be agreed by Stage Library in writing.

All scripts, text, artwork, branding, teaching materials, production resources and other original materials available through Stage Library are protected by intellectual property law.

Except for the specific permissions granted under your licence, no intellectual property rights are transferred to you.

Unauthorised copying, distribution, resale, public sharing or performance may constitute copyright infringement.

You may use the Stage Library website only for lawful purposes.

You must not:

• attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website or customer accounts;
• deliberately interfere with the operation or security of the website;
• scrape or systematically reproduce our catalogue or content;
• copy substantial parts of the website for commercial use; or
• use our website or materials in a way that infringes another person's rights.

We aim to keep Stage Library and purchased digital materials available and accessible, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability.

We may temporarily suspend access for maintenance, security, updates or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

Where a customer has purchased materials and experiences an access issue, we will make reasonable efforts to restore access or provide the purchased materials by another reasonable method.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful for us to do so.

Subject to this, Stage Library is not responsible for losses resulting from:

• use of our materials outside the scope of the licence;
• failure to obtain third-party music or performance permissions;
• decisions made by venues, schools or other third parties;
• loss of files caused by the customer's own systems;
• circumstances outside our reasonable control; or
• indirect or consequential business losses where exclusion of such losses is permitted by law.

If you are purchasing as a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

Consumer terms must be fair and transparent, and businesses cannot contract out of certain statutory responsibilities.

The person or organisation producing the show is responsible for:

• the safe management of rehearsals and performances;
• appropriate safeguarding arrangements;
• venue permissions;
• insurance where required;
• licences relating to third-party music or other content;
• permissions relating to performers;
• compliance with applicable child performance requirements;
• ticketing and audience arrangements; and
• compliance with applicable law and venue requirements.

Stage Library supplies theatrical material and associated performance rights only to the extent specified in your order.

If we reasonably believe our materials are being used outside the terms of a licence, we may contact you and require the unauthorised use to stop.

Serious or repeated infringement may result in withdrawal of the licence and/or further action to protect the relevant intellectual property rights.

Personal information is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Payment information may also be processed by our third-party payment provider in accordance with its own privacy and security policies.

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.

The terms applying to an individual order will normally be those in force when that order was placed.

The latest version will always be displayed on our website.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

If you are purchasing as a consumer, you will retain any mandatory legal protections that apply to you.

For business customers, the courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction in relation to disputes arising from these Terms.
